Ridgewood AC & Heating

Heat back on before the cold front.

Heat pumps that blow cold, furnaces that won't light, heat strips that never kick on. Coastal Bend cold snaps are short, but they're miserable without heat.

Heating Repair

Cold snaps don't wait for Monday.

Down here, the heat might only run a few weeks a year, which is exactly why it's easy to forget about until the first norther blows through and the system won't keep up. A heat pump that's been idle since March can have a stuck reversing valve, a failed defrost control or heat strips that never come on.

We diagnose it, give you the price, and fix it the same day whenever the part is on the truck. When a part has to be ordered, we don't just leave you cold: one customer's review mentions Thomas bringing them a space heater to use until it came in.

The fall checkup in our Club Membership exists for exactly this. It's a heating check before the first cold front, so the problem shows up on a warm day instead of a freezing night.

Questions about heating repair

Is a burning smell normal when I turn on the heat?

A dusty smell for the first few minutes of the season is normal: dust burning off the heat strips or burner. If the smell lingers, smells electrical, or the system shuts itself off, turn it off and call us.

Why does my heat pump blow cold air in the winter?

In heating mode a heat pump runs defrost cycles that can feel cool for a few minutes. If it's cool all the time, the reversing valve, defrost control or refrigerant charge needs a look.

What is emergency heat?

It's the backup electric heat in a heat pump system. It works, but it costs a lot more to run, so if your system is on emergency heat all the time, something in the heat pump side needs repair.

Can you check my heating before winter?

Yes. That's the fall visit in the Club Membership, and we also do one-time heating checkups. Book one before the first cold front and skip the rush.
